Dawn Freeland
Dawn Freeland is an artist living in Dallas, TX. She grew up in East Tennessee surrounded by music, art and storytelling. Dawn has had the opportunity to live in the Far East and Eastern Europe and to travel extensively. She believes God is the ultimate Creator and she but an artist reflecting His creation through light, color and composition.
Aristotle said, “The soul never thinks without a picture.” Dawn’s desire is to create pictures which cause the soul to think.
Although her formal education was in nursing, she studied art in Japan, Virginia and at the Maryland Institute of Art. She credits her greatest art growth to Jane E Jones who first taught her about art formats and color and continues to inspire her through workshops and critique. She has also studied with many teachers including Gerald Brommer, Stephen Quiller, Mel Stabin, and Karen Sistek.
She is known for her mixed media paintings and enjoys using oils, acrylics, collage, and silk painting. She taught collage to University students in Ukraine and is a member of the National Collage Society. She is also a silk painter and a member of the Silk Painters International Association (SPIN). Dawn was one of this years winners in the Artist's Network competition, Acrylic Works 4. Her winning painting will be published in ACRYLIC WORKS 4; CAPTIVATING COLOR by Northlight Books.
Dawn's work ranges from serene to lively and is in collections both nationally and internationally. It hangs in The Silver Street Gallery, Lake City, CO, and Artists' Showplace, Dallas, TX.
