An artful and culturally-rich event!

A nation rich in diversity, Indonesia is a reflection of the pluralism that marks the Asia-Pacific region. Over the centuries, various civilizations, races, faiths and cultures have found a home in the archipelago. Today, it is a nation of a quarter of a billion people, dispersed among no less than 17,508 islands.

The arts and culture of Indonesia will come together this fall at the Artists Showplace Gallery in Dallas. The works of 39 artists from the artists' community of Koperjati in East Java will be on exhibit for a limited time, exclusively at the gallery. East Java is a center of multiculturalism, and as a result, cultures such as Surabayan, Chinese, Pandalungan, Pesisiran, Arabic, and Mataraman have influenced the artistic processes of those who joined this community. The artists believe that in this global era, local cultures must be preserved in the international arena and that art plays a critical role in defining cultural identity.
